Ryan Edunation School, Jaipur, in association with Captain Chauhan Foundation Trust, organised an interactive handloom workshop for students from Grade 5 onwards to mark National Handloom Day. The session was conducted by Ms. Neerja Palisetty, Founder of SUTRAKAAR CREATIONS, Jaipur, and offered students an opportunity to understand India’s traditional weaving heritage through direct observation and interaction.

Traditional handlooms, charkhas, spinning equipment, yarns and handwoven fabrics were displayed during the workshop. Ms. Palisetty, a textile designer, educator and sustainability entrepreneur with a family legacy of weaving from Ponduru, Andhra Pradesh, demonstrated the process of spinning and handloom weaving. Students observed the functioning of the loom and learnt about the skill, patience and precision involved in creating handwoven textiles.

The session also highlighted the history of India’s handloom traditions and the role of artisan communities in preserving indigenous craftsmanship across generations. Students learnt how handwoven textiles reflect India's cultural identity while supporting artisan livelihoods. The workshop further sensitised them to sustainability, responsible consumption and the importance of preserving traditional crafts.

The interactive workshop saw enthusiastic participation from students, who asked questions and explored traditional tools and materials. The initiative reinforced the school’s focus on experiential learning and encouraged students to value India’s cultural heritage, indigenous knowledge and sustainable craftsmanship.
