In a significant step towards
improving livestock productivity and enhancing farmers' incomes, the Rajasthan
Government is actively promoting the use of indigenous gendersorted semen
technology across the state. By increasing the probability of female calf
births, the technology enables faster herd expansion, improved milk production
and better longterm economic returns for dairy farmers. With largescale
adoption of this innovation, Rajasthan has emerged as one of the leading states
in the country driving adoption of the indigenous technology.
Following concerns raised from a few
locations regarding the performance of gender sorted semen, the State
Government initiated an immediate scientific review to ensure complete
transparency and safeguard farmers' interests. Random semen samples were
collected from the reported areas as well as other parts of the state and sent
to the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, for independent
evaluation. The test results conclusively established that the gender sorted
semen supplied by the Department has 88 to 96% functional X chromosomes which
meets all prescribed scientific and quality standards. The report found the
technology to be technically sound, scientifically validated and free from any
qualityrelated deficiencies.
Animal Husbandry Minister Shri
JoraramKumawat and Dr. Suresh Chand Meena, Director, Animal Husbandry
Department, subsequently held a detailed review meeting with departmental
officials and other stakeholders. The meeting reaffirmed the Government's
commitment to promote indigenous gendersorted semen technology as a
costeffective and scientifically proven solution for the dairy farmers of the
state. Since the technology has been developed to suit Indian livestock
production systems, it offers greater fieldlevel suitability while reducing
dependence on expensive imported alternatives.
The Department is implementing the
programme through trained artificial insemination technicians while ensuring
strict adherence to scientific protocols and an uninterrupted cold chain. The
meeting was informed that 6.24 lakh gendersorted semen doses had been supplied
across the state by midJune, of which 3.23 lakh doses had already been utilised.
As per the available data, majority of the animals conceived through gender sorted
semen have resulted in the birth of female calves, demonstrating the
reliability and effectiveness of this technology.
The review meeting also directed
officials to ensure 100% utilisation of the indigenous gendersorted semen
supplied by the Department and to strictly follow all field protocols and cold chain
requirements so that farmers receive the maximum benefits from the programme.
The Rajasthan Government has urged dairy
farmers not to be influenced by misleading or unverified information and to
seek guidance only from their nearest veterinary clinics or officials of the
Animal Husbandry Department. The Government reiterated that it remains fully
committed to promote scientific livestock development, strengthening indigenous
technologies and improving the livelihoods of dairy farmers across the state.
